8 Simple Yet Unforgettable Celebrations

Jonelle Tannahill • Dec 15, 2023

Gather up your friends and family!

Creating unforgettable holiday gatherings is an art, adding your unique touch can truly make these moments special. Let's delve deeper into each of these eight holiday gathering ideas to inspire you to plan a simple interactive and fun event with friends (or family)  Starting with my favorite, the cookie exchange:

1. Cookie Exchange Party:

A cookie exchange is not just about the cookies; it's an experience. Encourage guests to bring five dozen creatively homemade cookies and include a holiday recipe. Provide special holiday tins and boxes for guests to box up their assorted cookies. Consider judging in categories, such as the most creative, sentimental, or personal favorite. Elevate the ambiance with a charcuterie board, some savory hors d'oeuvres, and don't forget the festive tunes to complete the atmosphere.

2. Ornament Exchange Festivity:

Turn the simple act of exchanging ornaments into a cherished tradition. Specify a budget, and have guests bring beautifully wrapped ornaments. Create a fun game where guests draw numbers to select or "steal" ornaments. Extra points go to those who bring handmade ornaments, adding a personal touch to the tree. Ensure the gathering is filled with laughter, warmth, and perhaps some holiday-themed snacks and maybe a simple fun craft for them to make and take home.

3. Gourmet Hot Cocoa Bar:

Transform a regular hot cocoa into a gourmet experience. Offer an array of toppings like marshmallows, whipped cream, and candy canes. Provide options for dark or milk chocolate, paired with regular, coconut, or almond milk and assorted syrups. This delightful setup is perfect for a quick spot to hang out before heading out to see Christmas lights or as a sweet ending to a special dinner.

4. Gingerbread House Village:

Take the gingerbread house decorating to a grand scale by creating a village. Guests contribute various buildings (school, church, business) to form a neighborhood, or town.  Craft stations can be set up to add extra elements like trees, street signs, mailboxes, roads, or fences. Keep the food simple yet hearty with a chili bar an array of toppings.  Each guest can bring cookies for dessert.

5. Dinner On The Move:

Elevate the traditional progressive dinner experience by adding small activities at each house or keeping it simple with good food and company. (Above guests help decorate for 30 minutes at each house)  Start with appetizers at House #1, move to the main meal at House #2, and finish with dessert at House #3. This is a great experience for couples too, especially when you add an element of surprise to the festivities. This is the perfect event for a viewing of holiday decorating too!

6. Classic Christmas Movie Night:

Picking a classic favorite is a good idea for a Christmas movie night.  Bring Christmas movies to life by encouraging guests to dress up as characters, enjoy themed food, and watch the movie together. Popcorn, full-size candy bars, and festive snacks complete the cozy movie night experience.  Don't forget to provide a few fun icebreaker games as guests arrive.

7. Under $25.00 Gift Exchange:

Add a twist to the classic gift exchange by incorporating a fondue party. Guests bring wrapped gifts, and the left/right game adds an element of fun and laughter. Fire up the fondue pot, open a package of cheese fondue, and let the warmth and joy flow through the evening.  Don't forget the background music and candles for added warmth.

8. Holiday Ornament Make and Take Party:

Host an ornament-making party that doubles as a crafting and socializing event. Set up crafting and refreshment tables, allowing guests to unleash their creativity. This all-evening affair ensures there's enough time for projects to dry, fostering a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.  Pinterest is a great place to get ideas, and make sure you have everything you need to make the craft at each station. Preparation is key for this event.  A potatoes bar or mexican food pot luck would be fun and easy meals to execute for an evening of creativity.

As we delve into the spirit of the season, these holiday gathering ideas are designed to turn moments into memories. Whether it's the aromas of freshly baked cookies at a Cookie Exchange Party or the  laughter echoing through a Gingerbread House Village, these festivities are crafted to bring people together in the most interactive way.

Let's talk Entertaining! User Good morning, I want to make a blog post on my collection of "Diane" Dishes" I received the collection from my aunt, grandma and some garage sale finds. I have used it for my wedding, showers, anniversary parties, birthdays and most recently for the Jane Austen Tea. I have a set of 48 though I am missing a few dishes to call it a full set. I use it only once or twice a year but it has come in so handy for events. I have lent it to friends for their special events too. Here is some info the the blog post: Diane China dishes - Back in the day… Stores handed out promotional dinnerware to keep their customers loyal. Let's take a stroll down memory lane and explore the charming world of vintage tableware giveaways from yesteryears. Back in the day, businesses used to sweeten the deal for customers by offering free dinnerware as promotional items. Whether it was grocery stores, gas stations, or even cereal companies, everyone seemed to be in on the act. Remember those days wh
