Happy Valentine’s Day!

I love to celebrate Valentine’s Day for many reasons from arranging a special bouquet to making a cake, chocolates, or cookies. My Valentines are always homemade, for example heart-shaped frosted cookies, homemade cards with sprinkles or cutout heart-shaped confetti, sheet music frames, heart-shaped silk or velvet pillows or loose tea that I place in envelopes with cutouts of doves, or the figure of the winged Cupid. When I was a little girl, the Valentine’s Day party at school was always one of my favorite days of the year. It wasn’t the candy, although that was great, and it wasn’t the Valentines, per se. I just loved that, on that day, everybody was kind to one another. Everyone in my class got a little card that said something nice. I never really had a boyfriend or a date; I just enjoyed the fondness of friends. As my daughters grew up, we used to watch a rom-com movie together, as well as exchange cards, and I made sure a special bag of treats would appear on their beds. Those days are gone but my children will always be my special Valentines.
