Rise and Shine: How to Create Calm Weekday Mornings

Fall is the perfect time to get your home, and your life, in order. As an experienced interior decorator, I understand the importance of a well-organized home, especially when it comes to weekday mornings. In this blog post, I'll share a variety of tips and tricks to help you set up your home for stress-free mornings. Who doesn't want to start their day with ease and simplicity?

Functional Entryway:

The entryway sets the tone for your home. Use that coat closet to gather your coats, hats, gloves, and other outerwear items. Incorporate a functional console table with storage for keys, shoes and bags. This prevents last-minute searches for these items as you leave in the morning.

Command Center:

The first step in streamlining your mornings is to establish a command center. Choose an easily accessible location near the daily entry point of your home. Whether you have a spacious mudroom, a cozy foyer, or just a small designated area by the door, you can create a command center that suits your space. Incorporate either a printed or online calendar, along with a master calendar where each family member's schedule is color-coded for easy reference. Include a drawer or bin of frequently needed supplies like pens, pencils, tape, and more. Your command center should cater to your family's specific needs, so think about what usually piles up in your entryway or what often gets forgotten and create a system for those items.

Reading Nook:

A cozy reading nook can be a delightful addition to your home, especially when it comes to stress-free mornings. Imagine a comfortable chair bathed in soft morning light, a warm cup of coffee in hand, and a tranquil space to read mail or make your daily to-do list. This dedicated corner not only provides a peaceful start to your day but also encourages relaxation and mindfulness. Consider adding a stylish lamp for both functionality and aesthetics. Whether you prefer a plush armchair or a window seat with a view, your reading nook can become your sanctuary amidst the morning rush. Kitchen Set Up:

In the heart of your home, the kitchen, you can set up for smooth weekday mornings. Organize a designated tray with frequently used cooking items right next to the stove. This arrangement ensures that utensils, spatulas, and cooking oils are always within arm's reach, making meal preparation a breeze. A coffee/tea station is another fun area to arrange for a quick cup of your favorite morning drink. Additionally, maintaining a neatly arranged pantry and keeping your most used plates, teapot or silverware close at hand. It’s also nice to hang your mugs and cups so they can be grabbed easily.

Bathroom Convenience:

Keep your bathroom stress-free by having towels, shampoo, and everyday items within arm's reach. For those who love an early morning workout, consider hanging your exercise clothing on the bathroom door the night before to eliminate excuses for not getting started.

Checklists:

For adults who navigate the complex web of responsibilities, including work, retirement, appointments, and family commitments, checklists become invaluable tools. These lists serve as trusted companions in ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks amidst the hustle of daily life. Consider creating a checklist tailored to your unique needs, whether it involves work-related tasks, appointments with healthcare providers, or family obligations. With a well-structured checklist, you can confidently approach each day, feeling organized and in control. It's not just about remembering everything; it's about experiencing a sense of accomplishment as you check off tasks and move steadily through your busy schedule. Whether it's a list on your phone or one hanging by the door, this simple practice can make a world of difference in managing your multifaceted life.

Grab & Go Food:

We are all trying to eat better. Sunday evenings are perfect for prepping grab-and-go food. Create individually portioned snacks and refrigerated items for lunches and snacks. You have the freedom to choose healthy options, and it's cost-effective compared to store-bought snacks. Don't forget about salad jars with dressing at the bottom and sandwiches for the week that you can make and freeze. Prepping food on Sundays ensures that your weekday mornings remain stress-free.

Pre-Packed Bags and lunch coolers:

Ensure that you are prepared for the day by packing your grab and go food items, snacks or lunch in a “stay cool” bag -- ready to go. Also pack your water bottles, I like to pack one thermos with just ice to freshen and cool down my bottles during the day. Try getting them ready the night before, including items like books, iPad, and any required documents or paper you’ll need for the next day.

Plan Your Outfits:

Review your calendar for the week on Sundays and plan your outfits accordingly. Select everything you need for each day, including underwear, pants, shirts, shoes, and accessories. This simple step removes the stress of deciding what to wear during the busy weekdays.

Additional Ideas: Here are a few more tips to make your mornings even smoother:

Morning Playlist: Create a morning playlist of your favorite upbeat tunes to set a positive tone for the day.

Tech-Free Zone: Designate a tech-free zone during breakfast to encourage face-to-face conversations.

Aromatherapy: Incorporate essential oil diffusers or scented candles with calming scents like lavender or citrus in your morning spaces. Pleasant aromas can set a serene atmosphere.

All the above will help you get more done with less stress. Incorporating these ideas into your daily routine can transform your mornings from chaotic to calm. It takes a bit of planning on the weekend and evenings, but the results are well worth it. Small changes can have a significant impact on your day-to-day life. Now, your mornings can start with tranquility, leaving you more time to savor that morning coffee. Let's talk Entertaining! User Good morning, I want to make a blog post on my collection of "Diane" Dishes" I received the collection from my aunt, grandma and some garage sale finds. I have used it for my wedding, showers, anniversary parties, birthdays and most recently for the Jane Austen Tea. I have a set of 48 though I am missing a few dishes to call it a full set. I use it only once or twice a year but it has come in so handy for events. I have lent it to friends for their special events too. Here is some info the the blog post: Diane China dishes - Back in the day… Stores handed out promotional dinnerware to keep their customers loyal. Let's take a stroll down memory lane and explore the charming world of vintage tableware giveaways from yesteryears. Back in the day, businesses used to sweeten the deal for customers by offering free dinnerware as promotional items. Whether it was grocery stores, gas stations, or even cereal companies, everyone seemed to be in on the act. Remember those days wh
